For me it's a great practice in discipline, but as the meet winds down when you're chasing the figure to beat it can change the strategy and horses to choose.
I was lucky to catch some good ones early. I will be watching those close enough to catch me and will prepare to cover if their picks are in my top choices. Wager close to post time to keep me honest!
