Its half assed dude, half assed and half baked.
The notion that guys still coaching pro and college teams are just gonna drop what they are doing and come running because its bama.
I'm saying, they are going about this the wrong way, and I think by the results they are having thats its obvious.
for your info spurrier, saban, grobe contacted Bama behind the scenes.
RR was highly recommended to Bama by Homer Smith. if Homer Smith tells you to go get someone then i think you take that recommendation.

their MO is to belittle the Tide and not to try and understand anything
and then make tired old racist comments which do not ring true anymore
if the Tide job isn't so important, why are we talking about it
why is it a top national sports media story over other openings:Miami, NC State, BC, etc.? and upcoming bowl games?
the have-nots will always be intimidated by the haves, and talk about
what they are doing

Miami chose poorly in my opinion, I think they screwed up as well.
Bama's job is certainly more important than NC St and BC!!!!!!
I don't think you get what I'm saying here, I never said it wasn't still a prestigious job, I just said it wasn't at the VERY top.
I wonder why a guy named Rodriguez didn't wanna go there?

i have a hard time believing saban would be interested. had he wanted to be in college bowl, he'd have stayed at lsu. he's turning miami around, they're showing good signs these days.
alabama is one of the better programs in the sec. no doubt whoever they get will be proud to be there.

saban's agaent contacted Bama before the dolphins started to win and it looked like saban would lose his job.

i guess Bama moves on to Grobe of wake, Paul Johnson of Navy, Kraigthrope of Tulsa and MAYBE Stoops at Oklahoma.

Grobe doesn't excite me. i'd love Johnson he'd do a great job and has 2 NC already. Kraigthrope, i don't know enough about and Stoops would scare me because the ncaa is snooping around oklahoma now for the off field stuff that cost him his qb at the start of the season.

DDtide,
I don't get it. With the success of Carroll, and with Weis grabbing every top recruit in the country, as well as the success that Butch davis had at Miami, etc. I think that its obvious that pro guys have a big edge in college.
You sit down in a kids living room and they all wanna play in the NFL. They see Weis rings, or talk a guy who like carroll who tells him he has all the pro contacts, and they wanna come and chase the dream thinking the Coach has an edge to get them there.
WHy chase all these college coaches like RR, etc. when there are some good asst coaches in the NFL who are damn smart and would love the opportunity?
Thats my point. Guys like RR aren't stupid, they realize they only have one more big move left in them, and they are gonna save it for their dream job.
I truly believe that Bowden and Paterno are just about done, and guys like RR and Rutgers guy are gonna lay in waiting for those jobs. Its just so much easier to recruit at schools like that than it is at Bama.
Saban probably would have come back to college, but his recent wins had him reasess. Its gotta be frustrating to come to a team expecting Ricky Williams and losing him, then signing Culpepper and having him be a total bust. But hes got the cash, and figures college jobs will always be there.
Pro coaches have a real grind(and assts) the camps start in July, and the season stretches until at LEAST early January.
College coaching is a bit easier timewise, and many find working with kids again after workiing with spoiled millionaires who don't listen, to be very rewarding.

nick should have stayed at lsu. but that's water under the bridge. he's had some things go wrong down there, but i think he can put it all together. we shall see.

and i agree that paterno and bowden are about ready to go. how could they not be? a changing of the guard at psu/fsu. all the respect in the world for joe paterno, not so much from me for bobby bowden.

the national media did not take pot-shots at Miami when Schiano, a coach at Rutgers (with Miami ties) turned them down like they did when Coach Rod turned Bama down...it's like they have an agenda against us. Also, Miami, with a higher hispanic population wanted Coach Rod as well, but he only listened to us. I agree they should get an NFL guy as the remaining "hot" college guys don't impress me either. But that would mean waiting about 4-5 weeks at the very least, while the solid recruiting class Shula lined up is dropping by the hour without a head coach in place.

Paul Bryant Jr. has to give up control and Mal needs to retire. This is a failure of epic proportions on their part. It's so bad we'll probably be reduced to offering Rush Propst the job and he'll decline and stay with Hoover.

watched Clerks 2 last night and LMAO
yeah, the problem is these old school guys like Mal and Paul Jr. are playing in a whole new ball game~ and that's why they brought in Chuck Neinas, who
should be fired immediately BTW
they need a good PR firm, and to sue ESPN & the Miami Herald for reporting false and damaging information
I hope Pratville whips Hoover
if it's Probst, I'm walking downtown and leaping off one of the bridges

Rich Rodriguez never intended on leaving WVU. Alabama is an attractive job for someone that is trying to make a name for themselves and granted there is quite a storied past. But if the people there think they can just throw out the ole Roll Tide and people are going to jump, they are sadly mistaken. There is no reason at all for any of the people mentioned as potential candidates to take this job. All they need to do is look at the attrition rate over the last 7 years to understand that there is absolutely no loyalty when it comes to being the head football coach there. Maybe if you pull off 11/1 or so in you first year, but that's about it. There was mention that RR broke a gentlemen's agreement earlier in this thread. I find that almost laughable. I wonder how many agreements were broken by the boosters and administrators when they sat down over the last 7 years and decided that the coach at the time wasn't the second coming afterall.

:P

We should make ESPN happy and hire a black coach. Ken Norton Jr. would be an excellent hire. Sure he lacks experience but he's done an excellent job as linebackers coach at USC. I imagine he could be a heck of a recruiter considering the Super Bowl rings he could flaunt.

Dude, the guy at Rutgers has pulled off the greatest coaching miracle I ever saw. EVER! he turned around and made a winner into a team that noone in the world would have felt possible.
His next move is to a dream job, and Miami aint no dream job.
That guy wants Penn St, it aint no secret. At some point Joe Pa will do whats right and make sure when he steps down that they will get the guy they need. Hes the guy. He can stay in the east and move to the Big Ten.
He wasn't going to Miami and everyone knew it.
Logistics do play a role in a job a guy takes, and Alabama isn't a big media market. You'll end up getting the right guy, it just won't be the guys you initially wanted.
Tom Coughlin may be available soon, God I hope so, and hes a better college coach than a pro coach. Hes aged about 30 years the last few years in NY, and I bet he'd like a job like that. he'd be on my list if I were Bama.
