They're new owners who hit the lottery with their first horse. They're making mistakes lots of new owners make, the difference being they have a really good horse so they get to make them on a much bigger scale. Right now they're having fun, and think they're a lot better at this ownership thing than they actually are. They'll get a solid dose of reality with their next few animals, and either start to figure it out or get out of the business.

I feel really bad for Sherman, too, but then again, as new owners, DAP also didn't know enough to sell a majority percent interest and give the horse to a big name trainer after he won a few races, which is what a lot of more experienced owners would have done. So a terrific horseman who has paid his dues got to take a horse to the Derby. Whatever else happens with Chrome, for the rest of his life, Art Sherman is the trainer of a Kentucky Derby winner.
