3:15. Walsingham. 8pts win. This rates a great bet. A half-brother to Strong Promise, Walsingham showed some ability for Richard Lee over hurdles (fell on his sole start over fences) at a modest level, winning twice last season. He is now switched to the outstanding Evan Williams and goes straight back over fences. A good-topped gelding, he has enough about him to do well over the bigger obstacles, his breeding backing this up. He gets in off a lowly mark of just 90 here and rates a cracking bet at around 11/2.

........mmmmmmmmmm, or perhaps not.....Pulled Up: -8pts

Total: +178.04pts

Betting duties suspended over Christmas - too much food, drink and other reasons for wasting money to think about wasting money - though took a lot of restraint to stop myself lumpingon Kauto Star @ 4/6, and also missed back ing Halcon Genelardais in the Welsh Nash @ 7/1. But never mind, onwards with the daily grind!

Newbury:
12:30: Victorias Groom: 0.5pt win @ 38: Fancy taking Fair Along on, Killaghy Castle the obv one, but got to chance this useful hurdler @ 38.

1:05: General Knowledge & Sadlers Star: 0.5pt each at 30 & 28: Brendan Powell has 3 runners and hard to split 2 of them, chuck a bit at both.

1:35: Whereareyouknow: 2pts win @ 4.7: Difficult race this, but this one prob still well in and sure to go well if over hard race at Cheltenham.

Taunton:
1:15: Honor And Glory: 5pts win @ 3/1: Best bet of the day, excuses in bad ground at Detox after winning at Lingfield. Must beat this shower of shyte!

3:50: Treasulier: 1pt win @ 7/1: Big value

Southwell:
3:00: Peas 'N Beans: 1pt win @ 9/4: Offers a bit of value in 2 horse race. Breeding offers some hope re fibresand.

3:30: Blythe Spirit: 1pt win @ 6/1: Will go in one day, and I'm not missing out when he does. Winston back up.

Wolverhampton:
6:20: Zando: 0.5pt e/w @ 33/1: Silly bet but does has a squeak, strictly speaking.

Great to hear from the other side of the pond. I lived in Leicester for a year and loved following the races in England. Still the sport of Kings!

A couple questions for you:

1. Where do you live?
2. Why do I see so many US bred horses yet have never heard of many of these sires?

Thanks,
Scott

Alright Scott,

I live in a West Yorkshire hole called Halifax at present, although originally from the far nicer Norwich, Norfolk.

I would imagine the reason that you haven't heard of the sires is that they raced in Europe, and many horses that race in Britain are bought from the American sales.

Harry.
