In 2010, (latest data I could find) private run prisons housed less than 10% of the total State and Fed inmate population. 1 2013 was the first year State Prison populations increased since 2009 adding a net Fed and State gain of 4,300 inmates or a 3 tenths of 1 percent gain. Wish every government cost increase was so minor. 2 The non-violent drug sentences are also greatly exaggerated as they don't consider offenses dismissed in negotiated pleas. Since over 90% of criminal cases are settled with pleas as opposed to trial it exponentially compounds the exaggeration.3 Lastly don't let the numbers fool you. U.S. inmate populations that include those on parole, probation and supervision are used to compare to other countries that include actual inmate populations. Heck I was on a 3 month supervision 2 years back for not paying a parking ticket on time. Oh, plus a $25 fine, a $145 in court costs and a half day of work. ![]() ![]() Just curious at how much time you think the cop killer should have been sentenced to for selling cocaine (3 times, once more than a kilo), Trafficking in stolen property, Trafficking heroin, Trafficking meth, possession of controlled substance (X2) and leaving the scene of an accident with injury? 1.http://www.propublica.org/article/by...ntion-industry 2http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/press/p13pr.cfm 3http://www.nolo.com/legal-encycloped...a-bargain.html ![]() |
