With HP on the way to death isnt it just a matter of time?

Frank's new surface is a bargaining chip.

Hollywood's dates aren't the only issue. First, Jamgotchian intimated that Stronach is going to pull the plug on Oak Tree, or stick a gun in Sherwood Chillingworth's ribs at the very least. Then, fold in the real uncertainty surrounding the County Fairgounds situation at Del Mar, and you can see where things could be headed.

Point here was, Jamgotchian's message should be well taken: Never sell the machinations of Stronach short. He's a shrewd guy.

He wants to dissolve the Oak Tree meet? Isn't the Oak Tree meet beyond approach? If I was Stonach I wouldnt pay for a new surface either.. For what it wasnt his doing? Steve the guy is a billionaire you think it was luck?lol Of course he is smart although Magna hasnt been his crowning achievement.
Unless someone gets some people to buy some horses and race them in California Stronach can do whatever he wants he aint fixing anything without stock and Hedge Fund is currently unavailable

First, Jamgotchian was responding to Davidowitz' comments about Stronach yesterday.. not mine.

Stronach may have a point usurping the Oak Tree dates. And no. Oak Tree is not sacrosanct.

Agree that if some ownership stability isn't forthcoming in CA immediately, there won't be any dates to worry about.

Frank's tough talk is already backfiring. He thinks he's going to pressure the CHRB into giving SA more days. He wants to put Hollywood out of business and get all of those days.

His tough talk totally backfired. I heard that the head of the CHRB told Frank that if they don't fix their track and get a track that drains, that the CHRB may take away all of Santa Anita's days and give them to Hollywood Park. That is classic. I would have loved to have seen the expression on Frank's face when he heard that.

That would be classic. Stick it to MAGNA and the BC.

Not really being close enough to the situation to give an objective opinion, my only question is this. Why on earth did Stronach fight to keep Santa Anita in the bankruptcy settlement, if he doesn't want to invest in it?

I realize he needs help from other sources and can't do it alone, but it seems like a headache he doesn't need.

I think he is willing to invest in it. But he figured that he has a bargaining chip since everyone wants a new track. He figured that he could say that he won't put in a new track unless he gets what he wants. He was fairly successful in Florida getting the state to deregulate and do things that would benefit him. He figured that maybe he could do the same thing in California. It's not going to happen. Hollywood Park has more clout politically than Stronach in California.

It's funny that Stronach thought he had the CHRB by the balls with regard to putting in a new track. In reality, they have him by the balls. They can take away all his winter racing dates if he doesn't fix the track.

Not really.

Horse racing was already deregulated pre-Stronach. And the pari-mutuels (not just Frank) got shafted when gaming was expanded.
