Horse racing is not thriving all over the country. My home track Suffolk Downs will be shutting down soon if we can't get a bill passed to bring a racino to Boston. My whole point is that horce racing is more of a niche sport than a widespread sport.
horse racing just is not an exciting product to broadcast (to the general public) compared to other entertainment or sports. with Poker you have a hand going all the time, sports there is constant action. Horse racing, you wait 25 minutes for a event that lasts 1:13 and change, and the gambling aspect of it is much more difficult to understand, and teach, to a general audience compared to something like Poker. it is a niche market.. the main thing the industry has to do is treat the people involved in the niche market (the gamblers) better. Dont worry about the general public until you've figured out how to serve your base. (LoWeR TakEouT!!)

Wow, today he said (about racing fans) "get that 5 p.m. dinner." Then, he went on to say something good about WWF Wrestling. He does have some sort of racist take on racing. It's not just a lack of cashing tickets. WWF is mainly White Trash, but he embraces that? He has some sort anti rich-white-man disdain for racing.

He 'asked' if anybody under 85 watching racing. This is right after they finished a segment about golf. Because golf is teeming with young viewers.

Michael Wilbon said something stupid this weekend. So what who cares he's fat and a faux intellectual.

Not sure about him, but I saw a ton of smoking hot young women dressed to the nine's on Saturday all over Belmont Park that certainly looked way under 85 to me. They certainly seemed to be interested in the races. I can assure you they don't dress up like that for the Yankees or the Northville Classic, and definitely not the Mets.
