![]() Steve, I don't know if you have access to the vets there to ask questions of them, but I am curious as to how many cases of heat stroke they have seen in horses before they run the race.
I have attended a lot of very hot weather race days over the last 30 years and have seen many many cases after the race is run, but don't recall ever seeing a horse go down after simply warming up. Maybe this is common and I simply haven't noticed, but this case seems very unique. |

![]() It depends on the horse. If she's a non-sweater that internalizes her heat, that can trigger the convulsions. It didn't seem hot enough here yesterday to warrant special considerations for heat stroke or heat stress. There may be something else involved in this case. I'll have Dr. Palmer and/or Dr. Allday on today to discuss/explain.
