Five thousand people packed Federation Square and stayed up at 2AM to watch Black Caviar's ultra gutty if unimpressive win in a Group 1 at Royal Ascot.

Rapid Redux wouldn't have come close. He was running in all Nickle starter races in the mid-atlantic for God sakes. If you want to say the award isn't about foreign horses ... why the hell is Frankel nominated? Frankel was the best horse in the world ... but his campaign simply wasn't that interesting and he didn't have anything close to the popularity Black Caviar did when it came to passionate fans.

It was meant to be a special award for Zenyatta to get after she lost the BC Classic to Blame and appearantly any shot at Horse of the Year.

The day they start nominating outstanding "cheaper" horses perhaps starter allowance ponies who venture into the right alw conditioned spot and do seven of ten wins, Is the day a poll will matter to me .
Oh and by cheaper, I mean cheaper, the kind the average man or group could get together with a trainer , maybe on deal or maybe paying the full freight on there own. The 6,250 (where did that number come from), 10,000 or 12,500 but not much higher
