I just don't get this kind of stuff. Giving a hoss who couldn't outrun a fat man to some 13 year old kid felt as good as getting a picture taken in the winners circle. Driving by that farm and seeing that hoss fat and happy ten years later was even better. Do people not recognize the fact that America would be just some little country, if not for the Horse.

Have a friend who creatively based her master's thesis in History on that very same subject a few years ago, learned so much while helping her edit, so true so true...

i think the horse gets too much credit in that regard. if we had to move west using oxen, the move would still have been made. our growth had more to do with escaping homelands, escaping crowding, wanting a new start, avoiding religious issues, and being far from other countries, giving us room and time to grow. but it's more romantic to just thank horses.
after all, native americans had horses-fat lot of good it did them.
