I'm from Texas and am hardly a huge fan of Rick Perry but he is in no way as disliked as Riot is attempting to argue. He has been fortunate to win re-election and that's had a lot to do with the Democrats nominating HORRIBLE candidates. Bill White, who he defeated in the last election, was very unpopular in Houston and had the tag of being sympathetic with illegal immigrants applied to him readily. That did not go over well in the smaller cities throughout the state.

There was a great amount of political motivation to the way Perry conducted himself at the recent session. The Texas legislature only meets every two years, so what doesn't get touched is often dead and stinking by the time they re-convene. He took stimulus money to help the state close the budget gap and what he got in the end was a balanced budget. The expense was a likely shortfall in 2013 provided Texas doesn't have huge gains in revenue generated by new businesses/residents. That is entirely possible based on the recent growth statistics within the state but is unlikely to reach the necessary level.

What Perry has perpetuated in the state is an extremely business friendly atmosphere. This has earned him a label as a fat cat "rich get richer" politician but is the most important reason why Texas creates jobs. As for his religious stuff, really, who cares? Does it matter to anyone that Obama is basically an agnostic?
