As for societal progress, a society is nothing more than a collection of individuals. It then follows that... A free society is a collection of free individuals. A productive society is a collection of productive individuals. A happy society is a collection of happy individuals. I think if the people are free to pursue happiness in their own way, society as a whole will benefit. The president would be unrealistic to think that people are going to run out and spend their hard earned money just to work some more for little or no financial gain. The guys who do buy an iPad and develop software for it, even games, are contributing to the economy when those games are bought for 99 cents or whatever the rate is. |

Not hard to believe that so many media outlets cherry-picked a sentence or two, missing the entire point of the speech. Sorta proves the point of the example the President used, regarding the need for education.

I can't believe "What Jefferson recognized, like the rest of that gifted generation, was that in the long run, their improbable experiment - America " hasn't been picked. Improbable Experiment? That's what this President thinks of the founding fathers? Real Nice!

You have to be kidding? Have you never taken an American history class? America's proposed structure of a democratic republic was indeed an "improbable experiment".

I've heard it called a bold experiment, many times, but "improbable"? I think that's the first time I've heard it put quite that way.

How that can even remotely be construed as a dig at the founding fathers is absolutely beyond me. |

Like any of those kids give a frogs fat azz what he says about their Ipod's and IPad's and how much information they choose to see. I bet what they heard was Blah Blah Blah and Waa Waa Waaa. That is usually what I hear when he speaks lol.

For the same reason when a dog makes a sound I call it a bark because I've heard it many times before. In Obama's case it started on his first world Apology for America tour. Hell his wife didn't experience her first momement of pride for the country until a few years ago.
