Default Springside

This really, really ticks me off about the sport - the blatent pretending and ignoring that something happened to Springside after the wire (I'm watching the track feed at home)

How about at least a little, "splinted and taken off in the ambulance"? If she's being euthanized on track, how about "being attended to on track" or at least some other euphanism?

Completely ignoring it happened - especially in a stakes race - doesn't cut it in this day and age.

Anybody there know what happened to her?

Andy - you guys should have said something prior to the next race.

Didn't look catastrophic, fortunately - but a little acknowledgement and show of concern would go far to making the public think that this sport gives a damn about the horses' welfare.

I was going to say the same thing but didn't want to get involved.

How does Andy have anything to do with this, and he is smart enough not to say anything about it, anyone watching the live feed saw what happened......This aint General Hospital

Thank you VERY much, Andy.

It's obviously not the house handicapping show's place to be the first to make such announcements, but hey, we just ran a great stakes race where the overwhelming fav was defeated, and the victor is hurt. Let's not pretend it didn't happen.

It's the track announcers place to inform the public, obviously. "To update on the outcome of the sixth race, the winner Springside went lame after the wire, Gomez jumped off her, she's being attended to ... "

Obviously nobody needs to speculate on outcome, nor does an owner need a mic shoved in their face. Just say briefly, after the horse is off the track, what happened and what's happening now to care for the horse.

The public face of failing to acknowledge that it even happened, to ignore there isn't a trophy presentation, is ridiculous and insulting to the horse and the connections.

NYRA gets a failing grade today in PR and concern for the horse on that one.

Edit: And Barclay Tagg finally gets a break!

Yes, that is why we waited until we had more information.

When you have more info on the one in the Cigar Mile, let us know. That one didn't look good.

Was it Wanderin Boy or Visionaire that got hurt? Andy, any info is appreciated.

On a side note, pmac and I are live to the 3,5,8 in the pk4, we need this one!

It was Wanderin Boy and I was told he was put down. The Filly seems like she can be saved. Very sad.

It is sad . Wanderin Boy's sire, Seeking The Gold, from the same family as Reviewer, sire of Ruffian, has a very bad reputation for producing unsound horses . Thankfully he has finally been retired .

I missed the race, just got home and came here first. No idea who won yet.

I really hope you're wrong, Handicappy. Respectfully...

Prayers are with Wanderin Boy and his connections.

I just hope you're wrong.

What he deserved was this win and not to have it end this way. Poor guy.

edit _ Jesus, no mention...

I am really sorry to hear that, that is a real shame regarding Wanderin Boy. Any word on whether JV is ok?

JV hopped off, the horse didn't go down. Shame really. Of course this was a horse that had survived 3 fractures in the past.

You are entitled to your opinions but you are seriously misguided. Information can only be given that is entirely accurate and we were not able to do that. Yes, we could have given the information about the filly, but not until after the Mile, and it seemed inappropriate to do so without any news on Wanderin Boy at that time. We agonized over the decision but felt we made the correct one.

We do the very best job we can relaying information. This information comes through the press office....as I'm guessing it does at every racetrack.

And it's not like you guys are Dr. Larry Bramlage who is in direct contact with the state vets at the time on injury. Even then the vets at the scene are only assuming the nature of the injury. Untill xrays are taken and evaluated should there be an announcement by on air broadcasters.
