I'm curious about the weights. The condition book says "older 124 lbs, 3yo's 120 lbs." Is the old scale of weights that the Jockey Club used to have still in use? I know that when they run the BC, in the Classic and Turf, 3yo's get a five pound allowance from older horses when the BC is run in October and four pounds when it's in November. They are only getting four pounds here?

Nevermind. Just found the scale and it says at 8f, 3yo's get four pounds in September and at 10f, they get five. So it seems that four is just about right.

Why instead of running on Turf, why not put him in a race run on Poly to see if he runs good/bad on it. Why till the Classic to find out?

Unless the poly race they put him in is the Goodwood, maybe they are thinking that racing on junk somewhere else won't be an indicator of how he'd do at SA. Sort of like why would a prep at Arlington tell someone how their horse will like Saratoga?

Am I correct, seriously, that IEAH is the sponsor of this race as well?

Yup.. From the MTH website press release on the draw...

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Big Brown, winner of four Grade 1 races this year including the Haskell Invitational and undisputed leader of the 3-year-old division, drew Post 4 Thursday as a field of 11 was entered for Saturday's inaugural running of the $500,000 Monmouth Stakes Presented by IEAH Stables.

If they think that then its stupid. What is running on Turf going to give him unless they go for BC Turf. If they are eyeing the Classic then go for a poly type surface. Run him at turfway for Kentucky Cup. Turfway and SA are simmilar type surface as far as polytrack is concerned.

That's the point. No surface is going to prepare him for exactly what he's going to run on in the Classic. So, with the issues he has with his feet, they are looking for an easier surface to run on than dirt. Where have you heard that Turfway and SA are similar? As far as I know, they've never run a single race on this stuff so how can anyone know this?

Turfway has a Polytrack surface tuned for its winter meet so that it will not freeze. Santa Anita has a new Pro-Ride track about which we know nothing yet. How can you say they are similar? Are you medium who can foretell the future?

Looks like IEAH screwed up a bit when writing the conditions of the race, whatever they may be. Gaging from the weights, it looks like Brown got no concession because of his G1 wins, although not on the turf, while G2T winners got 3 pounds, and others got 5.
