This was his first race off a layoff and he was clearly not at his best. I would not write him off yet, but this was not a great performance by any means.

I don't think anyone will have to write him off. Probably his last race right there.

i don't care for that guy at ALL, but for ieah to base their entire future with their trainer on one horse imo is a bunch of bullsh... big brown isn't the monster they thought he was. two more races and he's done anyway, and their is no telling how he'd handle the AWT and older horses.
if i was three chimneys, i'd be demanding the horse NOW.

they might need to invent a qtr crack so they can keep the stock from dropping - unless being unsound is a bad thing

He needed the race, and he most definitely needs a rider change. This race should set him up good for the Travers, I hope he goes in it. With a rider he gets along with.

seeing as how his trainer prefers to run horses fresh, off a layoff, i don't understand why the 'he just came off a layoff' excuse is being trotted out. dutrow said himself after the derby that he wished he had several weeks to get the horse ready for his next.

i don't think he's 'done for'-i think he showed he's not the super horse that many thought he was earlier this year, and that if they're so worried about his ability to win (thus affecting his stud fee) that now that he's redeemed himself, that it might be time for him to hang up the tack. he didn't look like the horse who won the fla derby and ky derby today. he looked very mortal, barely running down a horse who is far from the top of the 3 yo heap.

This is not the horse that won The Derby or the horse who broke from Barbaro's grave in the 12 hole at GP only to mock the competition as he cruised past all comers in a race that was over after the first half mile.

I would love to be wrong about this one but I would be shocked if he was in California this October.

Travers? retirement?
Im glad everyone here makes the decisions for BB. Did anybody see the post race interview and then see it again another 100 times on sports center??? They said one more race before the BBC and it most likely wouldn't be Travers. Wow.

On ESPN it looked to me like KD was having some trouble getting BB to slow down and stop after the wire. Did anyone else notice this? I wondered if BB just didn't get into the race until late and then wasn't ready for it to be over when it was.

I'm not a particular BB fan (I'd say because of the connections, but as FGFan can testify, I'm a huge fan of Benny the Bull, so consistent I am not. ), but I thought it was a fun race to watch and it was neat to see BB show a little bit of grit, since we haven't seen that from him before.

Think I saw a 106 Beyer for Big Brown for the Haskell, for what it is worth.
