Big Brown looked doubtful

I was really wondering if he was going to get Coal Play. I had a Super with Coal Play winning

ALostTexan 08-03-2008 05:28 PM

That was not the same horse that made those moves in the Florida Derby or in Louisville. I have no doubts that Zenyatta woudl destroy him the way he looked today.

pweizer 08-03-2008 05:29 PM

This was his first race off a layoff and he was clearly not at his best. I would not write him off yet, but this was not a great performance by any means.

I don't think anyone will have to write him off. Probably his last race right there.

Danzig 08-03-2008 05:30 PM

he managed to redeem himself. but based on the race, i'd put his ass on a van to three chimneys tomorrow.

TURF ?

AeWingnut 08-03-2008 05:46 PM

Maybe BB saw the cameras and wanted to give them a close up

i don't care for that guy at ALL, but for ieah to base their entire future with their trainer on one horse imo is a bunch of bullsh... big brown isn't the monster they thought he was. two more races and he's done anyway, and their is no telling how he'd handle the AWT and older horses.
if i was three chimneys, i'd be demanding the horse NOW.

AeWingnut 08-03-2008 06:14 PM

they might need to invent a qtr crack so they can keep the stock from dropping - unless being unsound is a bad thing

Mag 08-03-2008 06:16 PM

He needed the race, and he most definitely needs a rider change. This race should set him up good for the Travers, I hope he goes in it. With a rider he gets along with.

ddthetide 08-03-2008 06:17 PM

i said in the other thread, i don't think the horse is fit. that maybe all thats wrong.

Hell Danzig It's His First Race Back From Lay-off What Did You Expect To See You've Already Got Him Pegged As Done For ' The Near Future Will Prove You Very Wrong

The connections were disappointed. If you read more into than they do you're mistaken.

I think the shed awaits. I should be so lucky.

what did the rider do wrong?

hey mag?what did kent do wrong?put him outside leader around 1st turn
and drafted up back side.
what possible thing could he have done better?not jockeys fault today.
i think 2 months off
might have been a lttle shy of stamina

seeing as how his trainer prefers to run horses fresh, off a layoff, i don't understand why the 'he just came off a layoff' excuse is being trotted out. dutrow said himself after the derby that he wished he had several weeks to get the horse ready for his next.

i don't think he's 'done for'-i think he showed he's not the super horse that many thought he was earlier this year, and that if they're so worried about his ability to win (thus affecting his stud fee) that now that he's redeemed himself, that it might be time for him to hang up the tack. he didn't look like the horse who won the fla derby and ky derby today. he looked very mortal, barely running down a horse who is far from the top of the 3 yo heap.

BB fired out running & KD strangles him back, again. This discourages the horse. Then he fans him good and the horse obliges, lugging out to get away from the track and from Kent.

It's very simple to see this horse doesn't like this rider. Watch the body language. They fight. BB needs a chilly, sit-still, calm type of rider, not one who acts like he has ants in his pants. The chemistry is not there between them. The trainer has known this for a long time, Ivarone needs to listen to him about this.

Big Brown looked doubtful...

Did he ask Atoned in the paddock if his new saddle made his ass look fat?

You may have seen the last of the Big Fella. These connections are never going to let him chance losing another race IMO. The Breeders Cup Classic on Poly is an automatic excuse for his connections to shy away from having his ass handed to him.

This is not the horse that won The Derby or the horse who broke from Barbaro's grave in the 12 hole at GP only to mock the competition as he cruised past all comers in a race that was over after the first half mile.

I would love to be wrong about this one but I would be shocked if he was in California this October.
