Jan and the Donovan are fairly useless. Jason works hard and is often seen on the backstretch looking and talking about upcoming races with trainers. I agree Serling is very good a breaking down a race and I can learn alot from him as well as many guys like yourself. I just have a tough time with his style. Andy Beyer has said he was a know-it-all kid in Saratoga and grew up and became a know-it-all adult. The game is just too tough to approach wagering decisions with such certainity.

Beyer actually meant that as a compliment....but whatever. It certainly doesn't stop him from calling me every day to discuss the races.

Default Can't please everyone

Serling is one of the best

Del Mar vs Saratoga:
The contrasting surfaces dominate the comparison.

It certainly is very disappointing that New York has fallen behind other Major Tracks in providing Replays & Live Video.

oh, yes, I see. I get that ----- I think.
But I don't doubt he calls you. You have, apparently, had an innate ability to size up a race since you were a kid. I am serious now. I haven't been on this blog forever but very good handicappers here appreciate your wisdom. And I am certainly not one of those who I think are very good. I still have alot to learn about handicapping. But I enjoy it even when I'm not hitting them. I try to learn. I'll keep trying.

Show me a horseplayer that isn't always trying to learn, or thinks he ( or she ) knows everything, and I will show you a loser. That's one of the many things that makes the game so great.....there is always a ton to learn.

Thanks for that. You are right about that. And when the losing hits in Saratoga, whose races I always find very, very difficult to assess, there is always the Adelphi bar and porch to soothe my sensibilities. I really love the sport. Can't wait for Saratoga and I am excited to see Nafsger get in the hall with Richardson doing the presentation speech. Two truly classy guys it seems.

I don't think you are aware of what you are talking about. Gawd knows I've had some go-arounds with Andy S. but he does know his stuff regarding the races. And he does know who he knows. Maybe he does know Crist. Maybe I know Haskins. Heck it isn't all that tough to know them. They don't walk around like celeb's. If you are at the track enough you will run into them. And, surprise/surprise, they will be friendly and connect with you. And he was responding to a quote from Andy Beyer about him that I had read previously. So relax and if it doesn't sound right to you, let it pass. That is a whole lot better than censorship. And excuse me but I don't think anyone needs to prove anything to anyone here. We all take what we find valuable and try to learn a bit more about the game. I am responding not to protect anyone but because what you are reacting to arises from a comment I made.

I always suspected you were an anti-semite.

Just shows what YOU know... "Jan and the Donovan are fairly useless". Donovan is and has been the NYRA linemaker for the last 5-6 years.
And one of the most accurate linesmakers of ALL tracks.

Obviously, YOU don't understand what the "job" of a linesmaker is AND YOU don't watch the Talking Horses pre-race or YOU would realize Donovan often selects a horse DIFFERENT from ther horse he makes a the NYRA "morning-line favorite.

FWIIS, the NYRA handicappers are easily as good as the handicappers in the NY papers...TNYP and TheDN, and that includes DRF consensus picks in the DN.

Andy Serling, on the other hand, is a renown professional handicapper and a great addition to the NYRA program. But even Andy cannot breakdown every race and predict the winner for YOU

Darn. Why don't you tell me what you really think? Just my opinion. That's all. No need to get all worked up. I think I 've seen enough. I don't rely on those guys anyway. I do look into how they think a race sets up as there is always something I just haven't looked at. And I didn't say that Andy was anything but a very very good handicapper.
