DMR vs. SAR --- from a practical perspective

Being LAZY, and not being POLY phobic, I naturally would play the track that makes it the EASIEST for me to do so. Let's compare the NYRA and DMR websites:

DMR:

1) DMR webcams--Paddock Cam, PolyTrack Cam, Stable Cam

2) LIVE video

3) Race Replays

SAR (NYRA in General)

1) NADA
2) ZIP
3) We don't give a ****

There are links to video replays and live audio but they DON'T WORK.

Difficult choice

Though, I'll definitely be playing both (probably)

Why is NYRA SO FAR BEHIND THE TIMES? (And this is not about the bad positioning of their headon cameras for turf).

Del Mar might not be available to any ADW.

sumitas 07-14-2008 09:58 AM

I'd like to see a VLT operator named first. Has it been 5 years in the making yet ? But that's another issue with New York State. The web cams seem easy enough.

While they certainly are behind the times, I imagine that the franchise question delayed any improvements/changes they were looking to make. I remain hopeful that steps will be taken in the future to better the product.

Del Mar has had the best track website in racing for quite a while.

Danzig 07-14-2008 12:26 PM

how many different dm vs sar threads are we going to have on this site?

But NYRA has Serling doing Talkin horses one out of every five days and jason Blewitt 5 out of 5 so isnt it worth anything to you to earn on Serlings darkened form horses? Plus you get Jason expert opinion daily you do the math

No doubt, Serling is about as good as it gets when it comes to opinions and breaking down races. If it were up to me, he'd be doing the show 5 days a week; and solo. Blewitt, Jan, and the other guy typically get the muzzle from me.

If NYRA wants to get serious thay have to have passionate and informative people doing there shows. The replay stuff is great as well but that will all come if they start to listen to people like Serling and his type of player. Otherwise "heads" will continue to be the norm.. might as well put a hat on me and listen to my inane horse opinions with the crap they currently have on.

the_fat_man 07-14-2008 01:59 PM

No doubt, from a players' standpoint, it would behoove NYRA, and other tracks, to solicit, and utilize, the opinions of 'professional' handicappers when it comes to things like camera angles for replays, qualifications of stewards and chart callers, etc.

But all this **** is just excuses. The turf sprints at BEL, for example, wouldn't presently be playing any easier if I had better quality replays with better angles, or more accurate charts. The game is tough, any way you cut it. It just would be nice to not have to do the XTRA work that one would typically expect the track to handle. Provide accurate data and make it easy to access this data. Anything more is gravy; anything less is just not enough.

As many as we need to.....It's the highlight of racing for many of us.

well, that's understandable--but could be kept neat and tidy in one thread, right?

ateamstupid 07-14-2008 06:49 PM

NYRA still gives people free replays, you just can't access them through the NYRA website.

I don't know how true this is. This was working for a while but I believe Racereplays has discontinued it.

I watched NYRA races for free on the Race Replays website as recently as a week ago. Have you tried since?

the_fat_man 07-14-2008 07:13 PM

It was discontinued a few days ago. Going to http://www.racereplays.com/nyra/

returns a message about the regulatory issues

I think it's time for me to sign up for a racereplays plan but the live streaming issue is distinct from it and I believe NYRA should be streaming its feed online.

Jan and the Donovan are fairly useless. Jason works hard and is often seen on the backstretch looking and talking about upcoming races with trainers. I agree Serling is very good a breaking down a race and I can learn alot from him as well as many guys like yourself. I just have a tough time with his style. Andy Beyer has said he was a know-it-all kid in Saratoga and grew up and became a know-it-all adult. The game is just too tough to approach wagering decisions with such certainity.

Beyer actually meant that as a compliment....but whatever. It certainly doesn't stop him from calling me every day to discuss the races.

Bobby Fischer 07-14-2008 09:48 PM

Can't please everyone

Serling is one of the best

Del Mar vs Saratoga:
The contrasting surfaces dominate the comparison.

It certainly is very disappointing that New York has fallen behind other Major Tracks in providing Replays & Live Video.
