Before you make the claim, ask yourself this question - "What is your out move?"

If you think you can get out of the horse, or most of the way out, by dropping and winning if it is a bad claim, take a shot.

If you are claiming at the bottom and you've got no where to go except to eat your capital and take a complete bath if you claim a turd, don't drop the slip.

I always have an out figured before I claim a horse, assuming the horse will make it back to the track for another race.

BTW, keep in mind that claiming ain't handicapping - they are two different worlds.
