![]() It's too bad the weather didn't turn out better for the Preakness but it's way beyond anyone's
control. Whether it helped Seize the Grey we'll never know but on the 3rd Saturday in May he was much the best. Now for the unusual results which are beyond my control as this is an ROI contest. DonGuido gets the Pimlico win by posting the highest ROI and it wasn't that close. Ruffian collected more money but for reasons unknown DonG only wound up wagering $84 and finished up the afternoon with the win. JB might have been in the same boat had his exacta hit due to a scratch. This doesn't happen often but Saturday was the exception. Following are the unofficial results pending any objections. Please check your scores and let me know if I missed anything. I almost missed JB's scratch so mistakes happen. Congrats on the win Don. WIN... DonGuido... +$132.00... R 6: $12 ex 6w/1,2,3,7 $18.00 X 12... $216.00 PLACE... Ruffian... +$232.00... ![]() Good to see that at least a couple of our players did well on a day that stymied most of us. It was a difficult day for both pro and amateur. In some of the prerace analysis, some mention was given to Lukas having his best performance thus far in a while, but I think the analysts were actually leaning toward Lukas' other horse and not Seize The Gray and of course, Brad and Chad were mentioned a lot. Interesting I thought that freshness didn't seem to mean much as all three of the top finishers had raced on Derby Day.

![]() RQ can splain it better than me but I think its based on my return on investment was a higher percentage than yours. RQ can clear this up I'm sure.

![]() I think Don is right. We call this contest a return on investment for a reason. ROI is expressed as a percentage of what is invested. I too lost a contest, I think it was last year, in this way. Even though, it wasn't a winner, your play was very nice so kudos on that and it helped your totals overall for the contest. You may still be the overall leader or it may be NJS, but I'm fairly sure that it would be between you two.

![]() Ruffian, the determination of who wins the ROI contest is based on who has the best Return on their Investment, not who has won the most dollars. Usually the person with the highest ROI is also the person who has won the most.
However, in unusual situations where there might have been scratches, a player might have wagered less than the total bankroll (in this case, a lot less). The scorer will divide the amount won by the amount wagered to determine the Return on Investment and compare that with the ROI by each of the other players with positive results. Hope this helps you understand why you didn't get cheated out of a win. Last edited by JolyB : 05-20-2024 at 08:04 PM. |

![]() The easiest way to explain it Ruff is that it's not the most money won. If you played all 50 weeks and someone else only played 30, you might have more cash winnings but whoever played 30 could have a much higher return on investment because they bet less and had a higher percentage of return. It usually doesn't happen but sometimes it's also an issue with late scratches and bets can't be changed after post time in our contest. So to be fair, for as long as we played it's a percentage return and not a flat dollar figure.

That's right and then you multiply the number you come out with by 100 and that is the percentage. I think Ruffians was 116% and Don's was 157%, but I could be wrong as I am mathematically challenged. , Last edited by cal828 : 05-20-2024 at 08:51 PM. |

![]() OK now everyone, I'm just a mere retired Architect of 47 years who has never been that great with math but very good at geometry and trigonometry and the x,y,z axis, which has absolutely nother to do with this sport or wagering or ROI . . . although I do understand that my cryptic resoning to Ruffian now had a pretty good ROE, Return On Explanation.

![]() No longer will I sit on the sideline and continue to watch this sexism and male chauvinism CHARADE of Rufian33.
This so called cheating explanation is pure BS. There's no other way around it. As I see it, Even if Don was in the negative column the winner would still not be Rufian...so that alone speaks volume. I've seen the negative remarks here by two individuals who seems to have issues with Rufian. Funny though she's a much better capper than all of you and she doesn't even cap the races.. That's how good she is. And for you Don to come up with some lame ass excuses instead of doing the right thing by rejecting this mistakes baffles me. So I refuses to take part or be a part of this CHARADE. Funny, money not even involved here....why all this? It's clearly Rufian leading the pack and this is just a blatant attempt to derail her, shame on all of you. How do you sleep at night? Oh that's right, no problem sleeping at all cause you all have no conscience...Grow one!!! No bother, I'm out of here...Unlike Rufian I have a clear conscience. She should quit so that all you ladies could bitch among yourselves. And as for you Don, Shame on you for donning a military uniform. Where's your discipline? And oh yeah, I am a retired US army Disabled veterans P&T and you all are LOSERS. |

![]() Cruzan....Thanks for your service.
Rules are made to be modified. Once in place, they should stand for the season. Since wagers are made so early, a scratch of 50% (or more) of your bankroll should not be a determination of the final results. Same for not using 100%....yes I did forget on one $200 weekend. Just my .02 Now I'm off to chase whitey. |

![]() Let's face it, people of a certain age are going to forget things and I'm sure that is what happened and then on top of that there was a scratch, but it was no great conspiracy. I think nobody was very happy about it and a change in the rules could be appropriate at the end of the year.

![]() I agree Cal. A minimum amount should be wagered in the ROI and we can do that easily if the players want it. With that being said it is still an ROI contest and not a most money won contest. Sometimes you just can't wager the full $100 bankroll.
