Yes, if the horse had been euthanized immediately then poor taste I agree. But the fact that this horse is still making progress toward recovery I think makes the picture relevant. The public response toward Barbaro made NATIONAL news headlines with the letters, gifts, e-mails etc. If Barbaro doesn't win the triple crown and isn't injured he is simply a footnote on the nations memory. It was the INJURY and effort to save him that made him the story...not his racing...thus the picture is appropriate in my opinion. It is a good thing actually, unlike Ruffian, Go For Wand, Pine Island and other publicized breakdowns...this one may still yet have a good ending which is actually a positive for the sport which has so few recently.
