Very classless of them to put a picture of Barbaro with his broken leg on the home page. I mean cant they find a picture of somebody else (anybody else) preferrably with 4 healthy legs?

Poor form.

Tim, I have to say that I agree with you. Although the story of Barbaro dominated the headlines for a while in the horse industry and even managed to keep a small spotlight in the general media, one would think they could find a more appropriate picture of Barbaro to relive the 2006 racing season.

just my humble opinion.

Gander 12-30-2006 07:41 AM

Well we are on the same page T3B. This is one of the most dominating KY Derby winners I can ever remember, why not show a picture of him after or during the Derby?

Either that or show a picture of Park Avenue Prince after his victory in today's Gallant Fox

sumitas 12-30-2006 07:44 AM

There are too many improvements that need to be made in this game to settle for the status quo. That may be the message.

Gander 12-30-2006 07:50 AM

Anybody who logs on to drf can realize this game is in need of major improvements w/o having to see a horse with a broken leg.

sumitas 12-30-2006 07:52 AM

If anybody can see that, then why is it not happening ? It seems that obstructionists and those in denial have a profound effect in this game, still.

Gander 12-30-2006 07:55 AM

You're right. Things will get so much better now that they show a picture of a crippled Derby winner on the front page of one of racing's most visited websites.

sumitas 12-30-2006 07:57 AM

I hope so. Complacency can also set in to muffle change.

TheSpyder 12-30-2006 08:04 AM

I think Jay Privman, who wrote the article, must be having a post Christmas depression. The article is just as bad as the picture. As someone said, we all know the state of the game, so why not focus on the highlights, leaving the lowlights for a seperate editorial that includes solutions. To bunch the two subjects together seems out of place.

With all due respect, you guys are wrong. The saving of Barbaro was by far the biggest story in horse racing in 2006, period. Yes, if the horse had been euthanized immediately then poor taste I agree. But the fact that this horse is still making progress toward recovery I think makes the picture relevant. The public response toward Barbaro made NATIONAL news headlines with the letters, gifts, e-mails etc. If Barbaro doesn't win the triple crown and isn't injured he is simply a footnote on the nations memory. It was the INJURY and effort to save him that made him the story...not his racing...thus the picture is appropriate in my opinion. It is a good thing actually, unlike Ruffian, Go For Wand, Pine Island and other publicized breakdowns...this one may still yet have a good ending which is actually a positive for the sport which has so few recently.

With all due respect, opinions are NOT wrong...they are just that, opinions.

sorry...not careful enough with my word selection. It is my opinion, that your opinions are wrong...I have a different "opinion" on the subject at hand.

No worries...I certianly respect your opinion.

TheSpyder 12-30-2006 11:37 AM

Yea, my biggest beef is with the picture itself, either should have been one of him winning or now walking around enjoying survival, not the "moment". It's too sensationalized a picture. The good news was before and after

Gander 12-30-2006 11:58 AM

As much as I love the Form I think they did the wrong thing here. The picture that should be up is of Barbaro crossing the finish line in the Derby or something like that.

Thats the right opinion. Plain and simple. Poor taste shown by drf.

The picture that should be shown was that of Honour Old Glory crossing the line first in the last race on the second to last Monday of the Saratoga meet. That was the most significant race of the year because it was the only real good ticket I cashed.

D' Money???

Gander 12-30-2006 12:12 PM

That was an okay ticket Kev, but certainly not compared to Honour Old Glory.

You like D Money today?

This is very true. There were some beautiful pictures of Barbaro that could have been used, yet DRF chose that one. Very poor taste...
