![]() I'm starting to look a lot closer at the pedigrees of Kentucky Derby prospects.
As usual, I find a bunch of leading prospects whose mothers couldn't outrun a goat. Normandy Invasion's dam Boston Lady was one of those. She had a brutal five race career for excellent trainer Charlie LoPresti. Start #1: MSW race at Keeneland: 12th beaten 38 lengths Start #2: MSW race at Churchill Downs: 9th beaten 36 and 1/4 lengths Start #3: MSW race at River Downs: 7th beaten 18 and 1/2 lengths. Start #4: MSW race at Ellis Park: 9th beaten 22 and 1/4 lengths. Start #5: MSW race at Turfway Park: 11th beaten 26 lengths. In her five race career, she competed at five different tracks, all for an excellent trainer. Her most competitive showing was an 18+ length defeat at River Downs in her third race. There are some bad ones this year ... but she was probably the worst of the worst. The Dam of Orb was a pretty decent race horse ... in her final defeat before breaking her maiden, she was 2nd to the Cannon Shell trained and Jerry Bailey ridden Annual Dues going long at Saratoga. |
