well, since the first lady has to leave her job to become a member of the white house staff.....why shouldn't she get paid? it's not occurred to me before. but in this day and age, with more and more women working, perhaps it is time to explore compensation for the hours that the first lady (or first man, when the time comes) puts in. it's expected that she be an ambassador, take up a cause, make speeches, meet foreign dignitaries, etc, etc. time is money.
