![]() I bought tickets months ago to hopefully see the DC debut of Becks. Little did I know that it would also end up being the official MLS debut of the English sensation. Beckham warmed up for the last ten minutes or so of the first half, came out late for the second, warmed up some more, then removed his warmup jersey, put on his long-sleeve game jersey (in 90 plus degree temperatures!) and made his way to the pitch.
Most folks don't care about soccer, but for those Americans who do, this was undoubtedly the biggest domestic moment in soccer in a long, long time. I'm actually contemplating DC United season tickets now. There were over 46,000 people in rusty old RFK. I've never seen that many people there for a Nationals game or any other event. Beckham is going to be a great thing for the American soccer community.
