DC United - Galaxy

I bought tickets months ago to hopefully see the DC debut of Becks. Little did I know that it would also end up being the official MLS debut of the English sensation. Beckham warmed up for the last ten minutes or so of the first half, came out late for the second, warmed up some more, then removed his warmup jersey, put on his long-sleeve game jersey (in 90 plus degree temperatures!) and made his way to the pitch.

Most folks don't care about soccer, but for those Americans who do, this was undoubtedly the biggest domestic moment in soccer in a long, long time. I'm actually contemplating DC United season tickets now. There were over 46,000 people in rusty old RFK. I've never seen that many people there for a Nationals game or any other event. Beckham is going to be a great thing for the American soccer community.

Ya well from the looks of your photo you weren't so competetive Dispencer.

You look more like the loser in AndyPanda's Steel TetherBall Championships.

Spending five years as the starting goalie on a team ranked in the country's top 25 would normally qualify one as "competitive."

Draw your own conclusions.

soccer? whats the point? an hour of wind sprints and when they want a break, they roll around on the field like they've be shot, and five minutes later run back on the field like a hero.

just not enough depth. Yet! if Bama loses a couple lineman on either side of the ball, season Over! report i got was thier conditioning is EXCELLENT!
if the the O-line improves at all, they'll score plenty of points because they have weapons. D will give up points because of NO experience.
8-4, i wouldn't be surprized by 7-5.

If you question the competitiveness and athleticism of soccer I invite you to take a good look at the scars on my left knee.

It was pouring rain and I ran in to chip the ball up and over the defense's head when two girls slid in the mud and came crashing into my leg. Pop! And down I go. I spent my entire senior year in a full brace after having plastic grafted into my ACL and MCL along with several staples.

I may wear a skirt 90% of the time, but soccer chicks are tough. :D

As long as you go shoulder to shoulder most refs don't care how many people you take down on your way to the goal.

i almost broke an ankle playing soccer, two of us went to kick the ball at the same time--ball went straight up into the air. then there was the time someone kicked a ball and it went about fifteen feet, right into my face. ah, blood flow when a nose gets broken....

i like to play soccer...well, i did way back when. but i like to play baseball as well. as for watching? yawn
