Just watched the replay on Bloodhorse. Mike Smith on Unbridled's Song...not sure what Mike was thinking on that ride.

Anyway, best part of the clip was everyone congratulating Baffert after the race. You can read Baffert's mouth--"We Won."

Smith was probably thinking it was no big deal since Paragallo didn't have a shot at winning back-to-back Derbies anyway, whatwith the Silver Charm deal going sour and all...

I remember reading somewhere that Baffert said that was the worst photo he ever lost, including the 1998 Belmont.

Unbridled's Song ran in egg bar shoes for the derby...

That horse was so badly managed by his owner.. cracked hoof, rough and taxing derby.. then comes back 3 weeks later in the Peter Pan, loses at 1-5, then for some reason goes up against Cigar, only to get crushed... none of it made a lot of sense...

consider the owner. he's not exactly horse-friendly or considerate of what's best for them.

Are you saying that Jamie's First Punch wasn't a good horse?

I recall that Smith said that it was like "running in a foot race in combat boots."

There was nothing wrong with Smith's ride. He had a horse with a bad foot.
Horse ran a damn good race, considering the foot. He was 2 clear at the top of the stretch, ran a mile in 1:35 despite being in obvious pain (gets out coming out of the turn pretty bad) and the pacesetters he was with finished last or close to last. Never liked UBS much but I have to give him credit.
