Default Preakness Move?

Hello Folks

Has there ever been discussions about moving the Preakness from Pimlico? I feel as though Pimlico sticks out like a sore thumb when it comes to meaningful Grade 1 Races as far as the track goes.

Where else are you going to move it? Laurel isn't really an upgrade.

I like Pimlico. The neighborhood might not be great but the track itself is fine.

That is quite the understatement. It is a 3rd world country.

If Prop Joe was still alive he might not agree with you

Why not out of Maryland altogether? How about Monmouth?

Maryland has a rich history in thoroughbred racing and that is why the Preakness is held at Pimlico. New Jersey racing has a history of appearance fees for trainers, Joe Bravo, and racetracks closing.

Gee, never heard this conversation before.

I think there are a couple issues, one of the biggest of which is that I'm pretty sure MJC owns the name "Preakness."

Seeing how the infield is a large part of the profits for the whole year, I don't think that is going to happen any time soon.

Honest question: have you ever been to Pimlico?

No I haven't....why? Because why would I ever go to Maryland? It is not a destination state. That is my point.

And Kentucky is?

Look, I'm no Maryland lover, but to call an entire state "not a destination state" without having ever been there reeks of ignorance. Have you ever heard of Annapolis? The Eastern Shore? Ocean City? The Naval Academy? Lots of people come from all over the place to visit Maryland.

Also, LOL at the guy who's never been to Maryland apparently thinking Monmouth is a destination.

Jay Privman said on Steve's show yesterday that Baltimore is the most underrated city in America and I think he's absolutely right.

there's as much history in baltimore /maryland, if not more, than boston/ massachusetts.
they may take the race from maryland but they won't get the Preakness name.

There are a million things to do in Maryland, and I've traveled the world.

I'd rather go to Baltimore than Boston. It's a great city, and Pimlico isn't as bad as everyone that has never been there makes it out to be.
