![]() Quick survey of regular DTers.. Am toying with blocking registrations with gmail.com addresses as the vast majority (99.5%) are spam type sign-ups.
We have cut down considerably on the 100-125 phony registrations daily by blocking mail.ru, gawab.com and similar International addresses, but gmail.com accounts for a good 50% as well. Those with gmail.com addresses already would not be affected. It would only block attempts at NEW registrants. Just curious who is actually using gmail... Additionally, it has a very bad reputation overall for pegging users for targeted spam, etc. Thoughts?

![]() I use yahoo and gmail but I registered here under yahoo. And like Lori I get far less spam on gmail. I'm a mod on another forum where we've been getting bombarded with spam registrations as well. I just google the email address and the IP and you'll quickly catch the spammers since there are so many sites out there tracking them. You may have too much volume for that to be practical though. Not sure if when they sign up it gives you the location of their IP but I've found about 99% of the spam registrations come from overseas.

FWIW, I make an effort to use the buttons to let Yahoo know if a "spam" hits my main inbox. Yahoo of course makes an effort to identify spam and route to "spam." Every time I've let them know, the spam problem from that sender went away. So long as the spam lands in "spam," to me it's a non-issue. |
