![]() Because I'm a nice guy, I'll tell you what he was going to do. He was going to lose every race he entered. I think that the last 11 Derby winners have given us a total of 11 or 12 post Derby wins and four of those were in the Preakness. Four never won another race.

![]() I think there are two ways to look at it. First, I don't think he's better than them or had more potential so I don't agree in that way. The other way to look at it is to say he had much less to beat so the weaker competition might have allowed him to win something.

Any opinion ever given, by it's very nature, cannot be proven right or wrong. For instance, I could say that based solely on some of your posts, I think you are a moron. Could I be proven wrong? Not likely, but who knows. Now, the reasons I said Animal Kingdom had more upside are as follows. First, most of the recent Derby winners had already shown they were not much prior to their Derby wins. Super Saver, even to the most blind person, clearly preferred an off track at Churchill Downs. Mine that Bird, he clearly was nothing special, and lucked out by having about fifteen horses from that crop that were better than him get hurt. Big Brown? He had more upside than most, but when I saw his Preakness, I thought his racing days were just about over. Street Sense, he was an okay sort that got many favorable conditions throughout his career. There were people on here, myself included, who didn't expect much from him the rest of the year. Barbaro had zero upside after the Preakness. Giacamo was a terrible Derby winner. He wasn't much prior to the Derby, lucked out in winning the Derby, and figured to do little after the Derby. Animal Kingdom though, he was the least lightly raced Derby winner in recent years, excluding Big Brown, who, btw, happened to have the most upside of this group. Because of the relatively light racing, he hasn't proven himself to be a mediocre at best type of runner. He's also shown he can race over multiple surfaces, much like Big Brown. And no, don't get all righteous on me and pretend I'm saying Animal Kingdom is as good as Big Brown. I am not. I am saying that it's difficult to really assess Animal Kingdom fairly at this point. I can say though, that from within their respective crops, Animal Kingdom had the potential to win races. Especially with this killer group of older horses we've got. |

I do think he's certainly a better horse than Super Saver, and most likely MTB. I wouldn't say, at least at this point, he's better than Big Brown, Barbaro, or maybe even Street Sense. |

![]() Darren Rogers' release on Animal Kingdom's injury, surgery, rehab plan and target...
Following surgery, Animal Kingdom 90 days rehab at Fair Hill, first in Team Valor’s barn & then on water treadmill at equine therapy unit. Rehab plans call for Animal Kingdom to rest 4-6 weeks, after which he will walk on water treadmill 90 days. Off 3 months before training. Graham Motion will train Animal Kingdom well into early winter before sending to FL to begin final prep for late March Dubai World Cup. Team Valor's Barry Irwin says it is undecided whether Animal Kingdom will race prior to the Dubai World Cup.

![]() It's never a good thing to lose the Derby winner for the 2nd half of the year, especially when they have potential. However, I think the Dwyer will go a long way towards letting us know who's waiting in the wings.

![]() How likely is it that all 3 of our classic winners this year return in 2012? Only time will tell, but they seem to feel Animal Kingdom will recover fully if they're aiming for the World Cup. I assume there's no rush to retire Ruler on Ice as a 3yo gelding. Have Shackleford's connections commented on his prospects for a 4yo season?
