Default Elusive Heat

Wow. She can run a little bit. She was supposed to do it to that bunch but this gal can flat out fly. 1:08.94 with absolutely no encouragement.

It was over at the break. She broke as sharp as possible. Entering the stretch, the only question was by how much. Looking forward to seeing this one go forward into stiffer competition.

This was a very intelligent placing by Kiaran McLaughlin as she was put in a tough spot 1st off the maiden win and was very game to finish 2nd to Gemswick Park by a nose.

She can definitely run and considering how disappointing Xtra Heat's prior two foals were, this was a terrific performance.

Xrated Cat was certainly a disappointment, but Southwestern Heat could run a little bit, just had no stamina.

This one is something special though- her debut was spectacular as well.

What do you think the over/under is for how many starts she makes?

What makes you think she might not be durable? Xtra Heat made 35 starts and Elusive Quality made 20. She seems to be of pretty good size and her stride is extremely long.

More importantly, since you don't like the questions that are being asked of you today, do you think their long-term goal with this filly will be the Test?

I guess that performance will put Gemswick Park at odds-on Friday.

A match race at 4 1/2 Furlongs, versus Cool Coal Man, at Charles Town I assume.

Elusive Heat's stride length is very average.

She worked an unblinkered 1/8th in 10 flat at FT Feb and her stride length measured out middle of the road.

Her dam was the absolute best I've ever seen around the far turn for a speed sprinter. She would always break sharp - other speeds would often be discouraged to rush up to duel her early - she would just fracture races around the far turn - and loaf home through the stretch in sub par come home time.

I'd watch her races visually and analytically - especially the early ones - and would never be that impressed because she was making comfy early leads and plugging home in moderate time.

I thought they were aiming high, I was expecting 4 1/2 at Penn National.

She was legging it out pretty nicely down the stretch today and while she was pulling away from nothing, she was doing it quickly and never seemed to shorten up.

Her work time at the sale was a fifth of a second slower than the best 1/8th mile time and it's worth noting that she's a very late foal (4/30).

It's all speculation at this point but she looked like a very nice horse today and it's always fun when the offspring of a very nice mare look like they can run a bit.

Default Possible next start?

Noticed that she was nominated for the Cicada @ AQU next Sunday - any word on whether Kiaran plans to ship up for that or if they are looking for something more challenging

If you loved XHeat you would have been ruined forever watching "The Slam"...Now he was a special horse!

Actually I was referring to Fire Slam...Obviously a Grand Slam colt..."The Slam" was a colt who some weird guy on the old DRF board used to praise as the greatest sprinter ever..

Fire Slam won the G2 Riva Ridge at Belmont, the G3 Lacomte at Fair Grounds and the Matt Winn at Churchill. He also was second in the Delta Jackpot and the G2 Lexington. Don't remember him ever running at Turfway. Trained by David Carroll.

Good call here. I was disappointed that she wasn't in the Cicada but they had to give her time off. While her mom was as sturdy as they come this one may be too fast for her body. She is a good one. I looked for this thread as I remembered your comment here. Nice call on that first race yesterday (11th) at Aqueduct by the way.

Thanks.....but I would prefer I was wrong. She's pretty damn good. Probably another that's too fast for her own good.
