![]() Talk about a Maverick, that guy was one. I enjoyed the film as well, Tom Hanks was great as CW. From what I remember hearing I don't think that had to embellish in the film very much when it comes to some of the wild stuff the guy did either. The guy was a character in his own right.

![]() Was a hero, in a way yes.
But had we not armed the rebels, I wonder what the outcome would've been with regard to Al Queda essentially blaming the U.S. for leaving afterwards. Very tough call but one of the better books written in the last 20 years. |

![]() in his defense, he could only fight the war in front of him.
and he did lobby for civilian assistance for the afghan's after the soviets left. i think hindsight should point toward the failure to remain engaged in afghanistan post-soviet withdrawal. that vacuum was eventually filled by the taliban. i don't blame charlie wilson for that. npr ran a story on him a few days ago where one of his former campaign aides was talking about how they always sweated the next charlie wilson sex scandal. his west texas district was solidly baptist and conservative. he told them at the beginning of one campaign not to worry because he had finally met a good christian woman and he planned to marry her. as soon as she graduated high school. i like a guy that can make a joke at his own expense. |
