Pretty funny that they called the turf course 'good' and then the Dixie goes out and is run in 1:54.74, with a 7 1/2-length winner no less.

I thought Student Council was just an allowance horse that can only win Gr1's on polytrack.

He won the Donald Schafer being run under the name Pimlico Special. That was no G1 race with the purse cut. And a 102 should be an allowance horse, not a G1 winner.

Amen. The figures show he's still an allowance horse. The thing is.......so is everyone else.

I wasn't sitting on it really, it just hit me looking at the BSF's and seeing him near the top. thats fair, I think he was under estimated a bit by some. another trainer change may have him moving forward again. he has a bit of fight in him although its not always evident. I thought running down Gotcha Gold in the slop was not a bad effort.

I tend to discount performances like that on soft turfs. Some horses seem to handle the wet ground better than others. If only one horse really seems to thrive over the footing his performance will look much better than it really was.

DrugS

He got a very nice setup in terms of position, no doubt, and perhaps he, of all the others, preferred the going

but

the chart for his race looks like that of a typical off track (a 'wipeout)

these are very, very rare in turf races

and

the 2nd and 3rd place finishers ran 1-2 around the track --- so, it's not like he got a great setup pacewise, as nothing else ran from the rear

I don't do numbers and maybe this is explainable in terms of the off going but this is a HUGE EFFORT.

Oh - it was no doubt a tremendously dominating performance. No way could I knock it individually.

I just am very skeptical he can run back close to it on a typical firm turf course.

Where the hell has this guy been his last 3 starts? Finished pretty well in the Jamaica, but lost his rider @ MTH, and did nothing in a weak Ft. Marcy. I knew he had talent, and if he ran back to the Glow Stakes (which was a key race last year) he had a chance in what figured to be a wide open race (despite "SHAKLS" getting bet down to even money), but in no way did I expect that.

My friend owns a horse that runs in 16k str alw's at CD,$21k purse. It usually takes an 85-90 beyer to win with the likes of Stratostar; (99) this year, Self made man; (95) this year, and Chestermite. Yet, a 100 can win a G1. Seems Beyer pars have been made a thing of the past.

He freaked on a soaked turf course that was not "good" as labeled. Huge efforts like that aren't too uncommon. Remember Brilliant in the Kent BC?

races like that can sometimes come up really tough and competitive, with horses that on their best day aren't far short of current graded stakes levels.

Just curious--why isn't Big Brown's Preakness 100 BSF showing up on the DRF's Beyer Leaderboard for 3-yr-olds? The list goes down to 100 BSF's. Lantana Mob's 101 is there. Did they downgrade BB to a 99 or is it an oversight?
