$22k carryover as gold rail dominates at Aqueduct

Thursday, February 10th, 2011
Bona fide Aqueduct speed rail rendered handicapping moot Wednesday, and was partly responsible for triggering a $22k carryover into Thursday. No horse was more obviously assisted by the golden path than 8th race winner Does It Every Time who was backing up on the turn before being conveyored to the wire after being steered inside. 7th race wire winner Roaring Aly was another who preposterously stayed on despite her deficiencies. Got very little right at Gulfstream too, to make it a down day overall. Hope you did OK. Let’s jump right back in the pool Thursday!

Pieces don’t fit for AQU ‘6’; Huge Saturday of action!

Saturday, February 5th, 2011
Had all the pieces somewhere Friday in the Aqueduct double carryover try, but had 2 opinions doom the sextet ticket and the P4 as well… The first mistake was thinking too highly of single try Return to Hurstland in the 5th, as equally capable No Imagination (‘Next Best’ second tab) won and the Zito trainee checked in 4th. The second misstep came minutes later when Super Add Soda Kaps wired the 6th at 9-1. Multi-race attempts dead. I did catch a $73 triple in the 7th, but the afternoon was already on its’ way to being a ‘second guess’ kind of day. Hope you did OK as there’s a great day of racing ahead Saturday!

This race has no business being shoved into the P5/P6 sequence, and should have been placed as the 2nd race of the day to be fair to players. While it isn’t attempted every year, only 7 horses that won the Malibu have gone on to win the Strub, (6 swept the 3 race series), and the list is a bit of a Who’s Who: Determine, Round Table, Hillsdale, Ancient Title, Spectacular Bid, Precisionist, Diazo, Mizzen Mast and Rock Hard Ten. AQU P6 C/O finally arrives ahead of big stakes wknd

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Loss of AQU card was a downer Thursday given that the Friday slate for the $95k C/O is a weak sister by comparison. On top of that, Gulfstream action suffers miserably today in favor of tomorrow’s superb card. Thursday was a slippery slope at Hallandale until the nightcap. 3-1 ‘Most Likely’ key Midnight Thunder combined with 34-1 ‘Super Add’ Northern Linkage to trigger boffo exotics of $114 (Exacta), $497 (Triple) and $1,980 (Super) over includes B L’s Noise and Woodland. Up to that point, I’d been tilting windmills running second repeatedly, including 6th race ‘Most Likely’ Cashmere Kitten who shockingly went postward at a crazy 23-1.  Ended up being an OK day after leaking bankroll for the first 2+ hours. Hope you did OK. AQU carryover the target despite the rough sequence.

No AQU again, but GP action intriguing enough

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011
Was rolling along nicely at GP Wednesday before being derailed in the late double by a pair of difficult but plausable winners. Hope you did OK. Lots of good action all over the country today including the delayed $95k carryover at AQU (NOW CANCELLED) and good assorted sequences at GP, FG and SA.
