Big returns on Big Cap card; C/O offers more for Sunday

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

Gotham & Big Cap cards in NY and California were as fun and intriguing as anticipated Saturday with great races or individual performances and enough mutuel gold rings to make the work worthwhile. $1,000 late P4 hit at Santa Anita and $300 score in early quad ensured a profitable day and several in-race opps made for quality returns as well. It was great to get It’s Tricky started back as a 4yo in the Top Flight and the Tom Fool was a spectacular race that spells out great things to come for the one turn elders this year. In the feature, Hansen’s Gotham effort should send his critics scurrying back under cupboards for a while.

In CA, Eden’s Moon was impressive for Baffert in an odd ‘slow early’ Las Virgenes. Out of the G1, note the sneaky good effort of Moreno-Guillot aquiree Open Water who was the only filly able to make up ground and looks like 8.5-9f is going to be right in her wheelhouse. Willyconker was key to the SA P4’s quality return as he upended rival Mr. Commons in the Kilroe under a terrific ride by Joel Rosario. And on the subject of great efforts by jocks, Jose Lezcano’s decisions on a perfectly tuned Ron the Greek were flawless. The Mott 5yo had two moves in him and Lezcano used the first one entering the backstretch to gain important position and the second midway on the turn to the head of the stretch to gain control of the race.

Long, productive day and I hope everybody scored on some of the suggestions Saturday… Monster $430k P6 carryover Sunday at SA that will reach $2,000,000. It may be very difficult to come back with strong results after a particularly good day like Saturday on this tough sequence, but we have to try, don’t we?

Gotham, Big Cap cards a special Saturday of action

Lots of nice-priced winners Friday but took agonizing photo beat in 8th when favorite failed to finish after striking lead. Still brought home nice returns with big P3 anchored by Jammer stake winner Dontbeshy I’ll Buy, a new horse on dirt. Hope everyone did well. Huge day ahead on both coasts!

Photo denies quad; Sizable C/O at SA Thursday

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Took a tough photo beat in the AQU nightcap that denied a $475 P4 hit, but narrow win by $20 Cat Paws 30 minutes earlier was the only reason the quad was going to pay a worthwhile sum. In other words… that’s the way it goes. Gulfstream proved challenging with 70-1 winner starting the P5 and Mott firster upending the P4 later. Still a fun afternoon overall with some quality hits in New York that kept the head above water. Hope everyone did OK. $135k Santa Anita carryover today is irresistable but a VERY tough sequence..

Modest success gives way to potentailly big Sunday

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

Funny day Saturday with a handful of solid opinions at Gulfstream that kept the balance sheet unharmed on strength of $160+ in P5 consos and a decent $150 P3 boosted by Here to Win. Garafalo Davona Dale upsetter Yara derailed nearly everybody at Hallandale while Nates Mineshaft did the same thing to multi-race plays at New Orleans. Not a bad day, but we all will have to make the strong Sunday Fountain of Youth card and the AQU carryover sequence fodder for weekend profitability.. Hope you did OK yesterday!
