I mean, listen, he got a great trip in his win at Churchill, but I just don't think people can toss him given his pedigree, his win at Churchill, expected trip, and the assumption that Zito has taken his time with him given the fact that he had the earnings to do so |

![]() I won't deny that Cool Coal Man got pretty nice set-ups in his two wins this year, but I think he's a horse who makes his own trip. He's got nice stalking speed and I like that he'll be forwardly placed in the derby but not TOO close to a pace that COULD be fast or may turn out to be more moderate than some of us expect. I also thought that he made a VERY nice move in the FoY. He's got a win at CD where he beat Recapturetheglory pretty easily, he's 2-for-2 at 9F on dirt and has the pedigree to run all day. His 98 BSF stacks up pretty well with this group and he'll be a pretty big price. Sold yet?

![]() I can think of about 20 horses that I feel fairly comfortable in saying they have no shot to win.
I have taken off work every Derby day for the past 5 years...not this year. Zero interest in any of this group. Just a bunch of slow horses. |

OK....so I MIGHT stop by the OTB on the way home to watch it after work. But I'm not taking the full day off and sitting at the OTB all day, as I have years past. Already gonna be gone 3 days that week for a golf tournament in Maryland. Not gonna waste a vacation day on this years Derby. That whole pulse thing is questionable at times though... |

![]() Fair enough although not sold. I don't think he will get the pace nor trip he needs to seriously contend. The Derby pace may not be blistering but it is never slow.
I wouldn't advocate throwing him out based on the pedigree and trainer but he would need a big move forward to hit the board. |

![]() There's no doubt that this is not a great Derby Field. But the pulse thing is a little over the top. Derby Day is a blast. I don't care if there's 10 donkeys going into the gate, it's going to be exciting. This will be my 20th Derby since I began following horses and there hasn't been a year when "Derby Day" hasn't been a good time.
Even if someone doesn't like the Derby itself, how about the undercard? If people really feel this way about the Derby than maybe you're in the wrong sport. |

My point was that Derby day is awesome and if you have a pulse, you'll enjoy it regardless of how crappy the field is. |

![]() I totally agree...it's like the Masters. Oh course this years Masters is alot like this years Derby....not an exciting field with leaders from unknown parts of the sport.
Anyway, as someone said the undercard usually is great and lots of great races leading up to the Derby and by the time they sing Old Kentucky Home I'll have a pick and be ready for a great race. Spyder Quote:
