Terrible call by the umps at 3rd on the play where Pudge was clearly out. Not sure how he can justify making that call. The throw beat the runner easily and the tag was apparently made. You have to call the guy out in that kind of situation.

Bad throw by Giambi when they had the guy in the run down. Granted, Johnson made a high throw to Giambi, but Giambi still should throw that guy out at 2nd. Cost them another run.

Not to me it did Kev. It was close enough where you need to call him out. The throw beat the runner by a lot and tags arent always seen by the umps. Thats common knowledge in baseball. When throws beat the runners and the tags are close enough, the runner is out.

Kinda of like when the shortstop gets his foot "close enough" to the bag when turning two.

Exactly. Baseball moves in split seconds and umps have to go by things like how quick the throw gets there. Cant always see the tag.
But in this case, especially after seeing the replay, I really believe that Pudge was tagged. Now maybe the umpire couldnt see the tag but he had to see the throw beat Pudge, and to me it was not clear enough that the tag was missed. No way. Bad call. Hope it doesnt make the difference in this game.

No instant replay in baseball...calls, good or bad, are just part of the game.. Football has proved that instant replay doesn't work..

the tag hit his chest and then the shoulder...wrong call made! What is it with 1st basemen that can't throw to another base?? That chalk-line foul ball was a fair ball, and if the umpire was in correct position(in foul territory) he wouldn't have been scurrying to avoid the ball!

"come on...give me the f'n ball"...........Yanks get taken down by a freak on a roll.You must admit, his head was on the verge of exploding. I am pleasantly shocked that Detroit is giving the Yankees a series. You'd expect a team with the best lineup in the history of the sport to maybe lose 1game all post season, not to be up against the wall in the ALDS. All the so called experts thought this would be a slam dunk for the Bronx Bombers.

Gander,did you see the throw to home plate that Milton B made? Was perfect.I don't think Kendall tagged Tory,but (as you say)when the throw beats the runner,you will often get a call. You know God has a sense of humor.When he gives a headcase skills (like Milton's) it makes people start to overlook a lot of sht.
