'carthage'-a bit of a nod to several members in the pedigree. it's a (former, almost mythological) city in africa. no doubt everyone is aware of hannibal-and of course aeneas supposedly stopped there after leaving troy-dido killed herself when he left...at any rate, that's my reason for suggesting it.

'erasmus', or 'erasmus jacobs'. that's the name of the fellow who found the first diamond, leading to south africa becoming a huge diamond and gold provider.

'principality'

One of the top sprinters in Northern California a few years ago was named Carthage. IIRC, He upset Lost In The Fog in his comeback race as a 4yo.

There's a horse in HK named Carthage as well...

He's the former Alain de Royer-Dupre trained Beheshtam (FR).

Jacaranda City

Via Wikipedia:
Quote:
"Pretoria in South Africa is popularly known as The Jacaranda City due to the enormous number of Jacaranda trees planted as street trees and in parks and gardens. In flowering time the city appears blue/purple in colour when seen from the nearby hills because of all the Jacaranda trees. The time of year the Jacarandas bloom in Pretoria coincides with the year-end exams at the University of Pretoria and legend has it that if a flower from the Jacaranda tree drops on your head, you will pass all your exams."
Here's another link: http://gopretoria.co.za/the-jacaranda-city

Sounds like the flower is a good luck charm.

The scary part is that one of the fifth generation broodmares on Johannesburg's dam's side was named Blue Eyed Momo.

There was a train called the Johannesburg Express. Maybe something along the lines of that.
