He is very talented, and is def. the horse to beat tomorrow. I will be betting him tomorrow, and I get the feeling him and Midshipman will go on to better careers then Vineyard Haven

Default Vineyard Haven distant 4th in Dubai

He was in position going around the turn but came under pressure once they straightened away and showed no interest late.

Desert Party, the 2008 Sanford winner, won going away. Regal Ransom held on for 2nd in a useful effort.

Vineyard Haven did not look very good here, looks like Dettori knew what he was doing choosing Desert Party.

It looked they were staggering a bit coming home late, but isn't that surface a bit deep? It seems a lot of Dubai races look like that.

Do you think he'll have a prep, or just show up next in the Discovery off works alone?

VH was wrestled back and taken out of his free running style. He was stuck behind horses and never looked good.

Desert Party is by Street Cry and is likely a favorite of Sh. Mo as a result and is no doubt the "big horse" in the barn. I thought Regal Ransom ran on well after running close ealy.

By the time he gets back Lynne Scace will have him back.

Regal Ransom may have been the most impressive maiden winner at Saratoga last summer. Then they ran him on polytrack.

That must have been a different Desert Party than was plodding around NY last summer. Maybe he didn't like the mud when he won that stake at Saratoga, but didn't he bomb in his next start.....or was he scratched?

He bombed in the Hopeful after stumbling away from the gate.

Although the time was not fast, I thought Desert Party "looked the part" in the Sanford. He was off the board after a stumbling start in the Hopeful in his final start of 2008.

More impressive than Charirtable Man, Gone Astray or Hello Broadway/Imperial Council? Beating Brave Victory by 3/4 of a length doesn't say that much. I think this horse got overhyped while being bet down to favoritism in a very modest Norfolk.

Beating Brave Victory at 7 furlongs does mean a lot. He ran very well when cutback to 7 furlongs on Donn weekend. Think the Beyer was around 95. The brisnet was 102.

Are we talking about the Brave Victory that was defeated double-digit lengths in the one-turn Champagne and one-turn Iroquois, and just won a NW1X allowance at Gulfstream by a head over Fitzaslew?

Desert Party won the Sanford up the rail with a nifty move on a track where the rail was not the best portion.

He clearly has blossomed in Dubai and there is reason to think he benefited from having a race on Vineyard Haven.

If VH is allowed to go clear early in the UAE Derby he might be tough to catch. If he goes to the lead and gets caught then he might have been the biggest $12 million one-dimensional purchase ever.

I know who broke their maidens at Saratoga. I thought Regal Ransom was maybe the most impressive of all of them. Yes, beating Brave Victory, at 7F in his debut when Brave Victory had the benefit of a race, was very impressive in my opinion.

The Norfolk was run on the turf. I can't help that people bet a dirt horse to favoritism in that race.....just as I can't help that he was foolishly shipped across the country for that race.

I did use the word " may " in my post.

It will be interesting if they are smart enough to allow him to race to his strength. Usually they seem to think they know better.

If the Sheik doesn't go bust in the real estate crisis I'm sure he will spend money more foolishly in the future. It's in his pps.

I really doubt the Sheik can ever go bust.....but certainly stranger things have happened.
