Early Pedigrees to Watch at Keeneland Sale
by Frank Angst

While other factors will be considered, there are 10 yearlings sure to garner close scrutiny in the first book of the Keeneland September yearling sale, as they are out of grade I-winning mares who already have produced at least one stakes winner.

Listed progeny accomplishments are through Sept. 4.

Hip 10, filly by Malibu Moon —Lady Tak, by Mutakddim
Bred in Kentucky and consigned by her co-breeder Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent, Malibu Moon filly is out of Lady Tak, who scored grade I sprint wins at age 3 (Test Stakes) and 4 (Ballerina Stakes). Lady Tak already has produced stakes winner Melody Lady, a daughter of Unbridled's Song.

Hip 68, colt by War Front —Meridiana, by Lomitas
War Front colt was bred in Kentucky by Jon and Sarah Kelly and is consigned by Gainesway, agent. Colt's dam Meridiana is a German-bred daughter of Lomitas who won the Oaks d'Italia (Ity-I) and then in the U.S. captured two graded stakes, including the Orchid Stakes (gr. IIT) at Gulstream Park. She is the dam of multiple stakes winner Chamois, by Smart Strike ; and 2012 Man o'War Stakes (gr. IT) runner-up Center Divider. She boasts four winners from her first five starters.

Hip 146, colt by Smart Strike—Perfect Sting, by Red Ransom
Stronach Stables homebred Perfect Sting, the dam of this colt, won the 2000 Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT) at Churchill Downs and earned champion grass mare honors. Bred by her consignor, Adena Springs, this Smart Strike colt is a full brother to grade III winner Smart Sting and a half brother to stakes winner Quick Kid, by Ghostzapper , and grade II-placed Perfect Bullet, by El Prado.

Hip 197, colt by More Than Ready —Reina Victoriosa, by Interprete
Argentine-bred Reina Victoriosa scored a grade I victory in her native country. This colt is a full brother to dam's two previous stakes winners More Than Regal and Ready Ruler. She has produced six winners, including stakes-placed Ghost Reign, by Ghostzapper. This colt is consigned by Summerfield and was bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings.

Hip 254, colt by Malibu Moon—Sleepytime, by Royal Academy
Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, Malibu Moon colt is a half brother to Gentleman's Deal, by Danehill, a group III winner in England, and the Elusive Quality filly Dame Ellen, who won a stakes at Belmont Park. Irish-bred Sleepytime captured the 1997 Pertemps One Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) at Newmarket. Colt was bred in Kentucky by Tenth Street Stables.

Hip 288, filly by Unbridled's Song—Stop Traffic, by Cure the Blues
Bred by Gerald Ford's Diamond A Racing Corp., this daughter of Unbridled's Song is a full sister to last year's Whitney Invitational Handicap (gr. I) winner Cross Traffic. Dam Stop Traffic won grade I races on both coasts, taking the 1998 Ballerina Handicap at Saratoga Race Course and the 1999 Santa Monica Handicap at Santa Anita Park. Filly is consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency.

Hip 408, colt by Kitten's Joy —Wonder Again, by Silver Hawk
Bred in Kentucky by Bobby Flay and Richard Santulli, this Kitten's Joy colt is consigned by Darby Dan Farm. Colt is out of two-time grade I winner Wonder Again, who at age 3 won the Garden City Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IT) and at 5 won the Diana Handicap (gr. IT) at Saratoga. Wonder Again has produced Red Raven, a multiple stakes winner in Japan.

Hip 591, colt by Giant's Causeway —Dream of Summer, by Siberian Summer
Consigned by co-breeder Taylor Made Sales Agency, Giant's Causeway colt is out of Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I) winner Dream of Summer. Colt is a full brother to juvenile grade I winner Creative Cause , who placed in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I).

Hip 593, colt by Tapit —Dream Rush, by Wild Rush
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Tapit colt is out of Dream Rush, who won four graded stakes in her 3-year-old season including the 2007 Darley Test and the Prioress Stakes. She is the dam of 2012 Frizette Stakes (gr. I) winner Dreaming of Julia, by A.P. Indy; and the Medaglia d'Oro colt Atreides, who won this year's Monarchos Stakes at Gulfstream. Colt is consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency.

Hip 595, Tour de Force, colt by Tiznow —Dream Supreme, by Seeking the Gold
Consigned by Lane's End, agent for breeder Kinsman Farm, Kentucky-bred Tiznow colt (named Tour de Force) is out of 2000 Test and Ballerina winner Dream Supreme. A winner of four other graded stakes, Dream Supreme is the dam 2007 Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) winner and successful sire Majestic Warrior (by A.P. Indy). She also has produced stakes winners Evolutionist and Crystal Current.

The first-book yearlings out of grade I winners who already have produced stakes winners would have been an even dozen but the group included two outs in an Awesome Again colt out of Soaring Softly and a War Front filly out of broodmare of the year Take Charge Lady.

Yep Claiborne is certainly on the boil. I had to laugh watching a Phipp's culled broody producing a 7 figure foal. Shug gets 15-20 new ones a year with twice the page.
