Pennine Ridge is a very odd choice for a 200k race..
If someone wanted to name a stake for a marginally talented December Hill turf horse.... Vergennes would have been better, at least he won a Grade I. |

Eight Thirty for a 3yo race at Saratoga. Look him up and see what he did there in the summer of 1939. One of the best you may never have heard of though they did get him into the Walk of Fame up there. I think he may have a race named for him at Delaware of all places.

I would love to see a New York stakes race named for Say Florida Sandy.
Just to jog the memory: 98 Starts, 33 Wins, 17 Places, 12 Shows Career Earnings: $2,085,408 Raced as an entire male from age 2 through age 9. First NY-bred to go over $2M in earnings, and he did it all in sprints and without ever winning a GI, to my recollection. Remains 2nd in NY-bred career earnings behind only Funny Cide. I think a NYRA stakes honoring this guy would be more than appropriate. Hope it happens. |
