i think there's so much attention on this case because it is an encapsulation of things that are still wrong in our society. a guy walking is suspicious because he's black. not because he is acting furtively, because he is peering into windows, stopping and looking around to see if anyone is paying attention to him, he isn't looking into parked vheicles, not carrying a weapon, not acting any way suspiciously. but he is black, that alone is enough to raise the suspicions of the man who then pursues him despite being told not to.
why was zimmerman, who left a place of safety after being told to stay in his car, able to stand his ground (after not staying 'on his ground') but trayvon, concerned he is being followed by a stranger, cannot?

Amazing how the media has made Zimmerman white despite his Hispanic mother and appearance. Guess Hispanic racist vigilante doesn't serve the media frenzy quite as well as white racist vigilante.

BTW aren't the people who are predicting riots in the street if Zimmerman walks guilty of the same negative black profiling he is?

Or did I miss the media's predictions of violence in the street when OJ walked?

it's not a matter of what race zimmerman is, it's the fact that he was suspicious of martin because martin was black.

I'm sure you meant Trayvon and not Martin and think his race is a big deal for 'the story' some news channels are covering 24/7.

if i refer to zimmerman, why can't i refer to martin, since it's trayvon's last name? and of course it's a big deal, it's a huge part of the whole story.
trayvon martin is white-the entire incident never happens. and it's not hope. it's a real possibility. the story is about race, it would stand to reason there would be a reaction based on how the story plays out.
it's not 'ignorant and racist'. had there not been an outcry, there wouldn't have been an investigation, a trial. i'm sorry that you think it's all no big deal, because it is one. it indicates that for many, there is still a mindset that a black person is automatically to be suspected. add in that the person who is suspicious seems to be less than normal and well-balanced, and you have a recipe for disaster.
why you think the media shouldn't report on it is beyond me. it's the latest poster child for the still-prevalent racism in this country.

And all quiet in the neighborhood sans one police car in Oakland being destroyed which, the media now keeps playing over and over.

To me the mindset that led to profiling and the following of Trayvon is similar to the mindset that leads the media to believe African Americans were going to riot if the jury came back not guilty.

My question is why CNN put a cheating minister, who is waiting for his felon son and felon daughter-in-law to get sentenced, living 1500 miles away from Sanford as some sort of spokesman for the African American community? My Lord couldn't they find someone local with no felonious children, faithful to his wife and with no bastard children to represent the community?
