This is late but I have to add him...

Rolling Pin in the All Aged back on the 27th of April.

He finished 4th and then was euthanized.

Race Synopsis: All Too Hard was smartly away and settled one out and one back. He was taken wide after turning for home, took a little while to wind-up before dashing quickly after passing the 200m. He grabbed the leader in the closing stages to win going away by half length. The noted frontrunner Rain Affair led as expected but Craig Williams rated him not seeking to set up a big lead as he had done previously. He then got a good break on turning for home and was only caught in the final stages holding for a good second. The stayer Fiorente, having he first run since finishing second in the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m), came from last at the home turn for an eye-catching third. Outsider Rolling Pin surprised in running on from seventh on the rails at the 600m for fourth, he unfortunately pulled up in a distressed state. Rangirangdoo was second to the turn and held on particularly well for a good first-up fifth. Epaulette with sixth one off the rails to the turn, put in a dash at the 200m but only battled from there to finish sixth, while the high class mare More Joyous was third to the turn but raced well below her best, tiring for seventh. Smokin’ Joey was never a chance and finished last in the eight-horse field.

HIs silly name always made me smile.

Rest in peace.

Per Bloodhorse.com:

Sewickley, dual grade I-winning stallion, died July 10, in Maryland. He was 28. According to his owner, the cause of death was complications due to colic.

Bred in New Jersey by Robert S. Evans, Sewickley was by Star de Naskra, 1979 champion U.S. sprinter. His dam, Surgery, by the legendary Dr. Fager, was named New Jersey's 1989 Broodmare of the Year and also produced grade I winner Shared Interest.

Among Sewickley's 11 wins are scores in consecutive runnings of the Vosburgh Stakes (gr. I) (1989 and 1990), the Fall Highweight Handicap (gr. II), the Tom Fool Stakes (gr. II) (all at Belmont Park); and the Commonwealth Breeders' Cup Handicap at Keeneland. In 16 graded stakes attempts, he finished in the money 12 times.

A homebred runner for Evans, the Flint S. Schulhofer trainee achieved champion status in New Jersey five times in two years as champion sprinter and older horse in 1989; and champion sprinter, older horse, and Horse of the Year for 1990. Upon his retirement at the end of his 5-year-old campaign, Sewickely's record stood at 11-9-4 from 32 starts with earnings totaling $1,017,517.

Sewickley entered stud for the 1991 breeding season at Courtland Farm in Maryland. He was moved to O'Sullivan Farms in West Virginia in 2000 after being named among the top sires in the state for 1999.

Pensioned about 12 years ago, he is the sire of 57 winners from 71 starters, including stakes winners Normandy Beach, Show and Tell, and Perfect Challenge as well as Javeriano, a group II winner in Panama.

From owner Wally Leong – July 14

It is with much sadness and heavy heart that we wish to inform that STRAIT OF DOVER was euthanized this evening at Milton Equine Hospital in Toronto.

He had an operation for a twisted large colon (540 degrees) in the AM on July 11/13. The surgery initially appeared hopeful but turned for the worse the last two days. It was necessary to end his pain and suffering.

It is very unfortunate that we will never know his full racing or stallion potential.

Many of us will miss him dearly but will always remember the joy he brought us -however brief.

Sincerely, CANYON FARMS
