I just watched the Preakness video for the first time, and cried over it. That horse was in a lot of pain.

I don't mean to minimize the impression of how serious the Preakness injury was but really all I see when I see it (not slow motion because it gets worse) is a horse pulling up in a crowd, then kinda hopping along. He was so agile and it looked the equivalent of a person running along, stepping on a tack or something and going 'oh crap, ow ow ow..'

It's no Go For Wand for me and I can't make myself feel that way even if it was potentially life ending. Not that I haven't tried to think 'wow this is serious, surely I ought to find it hard to watch' but it never sunk in that way. I think the horse did such a good job protecting itself as Prado pulled him up that I somehow felt a little safer, as a fan--able to see it without feeling nauseous. Probably how I was able to be anxiously optimistic and get in a big argument with some people I watched the race with for being so pessimistic. Of course the odds of being right were probably in their favor but I had a gut feeling from watching it.

I was there for the Laurel Futurity. Can always say I saw Barbaro before he was really Barbaro.
