Because he is a strange looking fella that has fairly radical ideas (compared to the typical presidential telling them what they want to hear) and wont either simply play to his base or follow the company line. Mostly because he doesnt look "presidential" enough. Americans dont want to have to understand issues or do homework. They love slogans and false promises. He isnt very good at those.

At least Ron Paul was consistent and open in his beliefs across his career, and was a painfully honest libertarian (strange as he carried a few beliefs that are opposite to his Hippocratic oath and his actual actions as a doctor).

His son Rand, who Paul wants to inherit his base, is a shape-shifter, and quite unlikeable and angry. A dangerous man I want nowhere near power. I never had that fear about Ron Paul.
