I'm not really sure what else they could do. The 1 was a valid DQ as he started before the others regardless of him rearing up. The 2 was a valid non-starter as the starter had a hold of his bridle. There is no jurisdiction in the country as fair as NY in declaring non-starters. I disagree that NY has the worst rules in the country, FL is far worse for one.

Obviously the starter and the guys in the gate were not in sync. But. I don't see what else they should do. Other jurisdictions may have let the result stand which is not fair either. I guess you can argue they should have voided the race and refunded as Coach said, but I can count the number of times that has happened on one hand. Maybe the State will use this race as an excuse to fully revoke NYRA's franchise.

The right thing to do is pay a guy to hold a flag at the start of the turn to let the jockeys know a dq has happened. This is what occurs in real sports. A gun shot, flag etc. ANYTHING.

That was ridiculous. Amateur hour. For a stakes race for crying out loud. During a pick 4 where they advertise and entice guarantees.

Agreed Coach! And the one thing that people are not mentioning in this whole debacle is the the fact despite rearing up and spotting the field a few lengths is this horse still almost ran second.
