New trainer in town

Cody is an alright horseman...he spots his horses well...

He is in his low 20s and is a young, wheel-and-dealing type of trainer....he's always trying to claim horses and privately purchase horses and stays active to grow his business...

Realistically, he won't have a ton of success at a place like CD with the stock he has right now, but he is definately a trainer with a future...

He has been school by some good horsemen, including working for Mandella on the west coast for a while...

I had a horse with Cody this past Oaklawn and Lone Star meet. I found him through a friend of mine, another horse owner, who was already claiming horses with him. I heard very good things about him from people I know well and trust so I gave the green light.

As said, he is young but he is an emerging up and comer. He shoots very good, places his horses very well and is an extremely hard worker. He came up under Bubba Cascio and just works. Cody points toward to the Lone Star meet and this year the hard work and prep work paid off. He got out of the gate with unheard of #'s. A quarter way through the meet he was shooting 50% plus and was the leading trainer. Midway through the meet he was still incredible, something like 40% plus and was still on top in the standings.

Keep an eye on this guy.

Couldnt warm Bobby Dibona up.

He is a real nice kid though with a great future. He does a lot of vet work. I have him on a short list of guys I wont buy from privately. Thats good if hes your trainer, bad if you are buying from him.

Watch any claims he makes at CD cheap or moderately priced. I dont know where he came up with the IN bred he won with today but at 11/1 it dosent look like many were aware of him.

Just as an FYI, one horse I had with Cody had some problems, and compared to other trainers I've had, my experience, etc. -- the vet bills were more than reasonable.

Cody is also getting some more power behind him now. I am not sure if these are people who will also point, aim, etc. toward Lone Star or something of the like.

I didnt say the vet does all his work, I said his program does a lot of vet work. Probably whomever you used prior to Cody was marking up your bills and charging you a premium. You do realize most trainers are crooks. Lucky for you, you have found an honest kid in the business who wants to do well and works hard.

Cody's outfit does a ton of work on horses, private buys from him are almost as bad as Calhoun, which are terrible.

I hear you. I used Cody at the same time as several other trainers as we race all over the US. Conentrate in the US -- but always look to KY, Chicago, mid-west, etc. Bills, vet work, barn expenses, etc. All relative but what came out of Cody's barn was very reasonable. After 20 years in the game I've seen crooks, good guys, bad guys, and so on. The backstretch is a very interesting place to say the least. I've seen the big bills and the small ones. LOL.
