Yeah, Brad Free tweeted yesterday that 'The Factor was a standout in the Dirt Mile.'

That's kind of a bold statement by Brad Free. With the relatively fresh run-off Tapizar and Shackleford in there, he won't be having an easy time of it like he did at Oaklawn. Even Tres Borrachos, who had settled in his summer starts, suddenly reverted back to his frontrunning ways when going at it with Game On Dude in the fast-paced Goodwood.

In another post I questioned the connections of Jackson Bend and Trappe Shot for not targeting the Sprint, but they might get a better setup here.

Twirling Candy’s retirement makes #TheFactor a virtual standout in the BC Dirt Mile, though he also will pre-enter the BC Sprint.

Brad Free tweet from Monday, October 24.

Insanity. I thought he made that statement because up to that point, he hadn't considered The Factor as a possible starter in the Dirt Mile, and perhaps thought he was a better fit in the race compared to the Sprint.

If the reason is simply because the great Twirling Candy retired, then his opinion loses a lot of mustard. One look at the Beyers of Trappe Shot and Jackson Bend compared to those of Twirling Candy tells you that.

Actually, all this really signals is that The Factor, with but a single impressive performance in the last 6 months (over polytrack no less) sandwiched between some high profile flops, is the heir-apparent to Twirling Candy's coveted Token Overrated California Horse title.

Zensational would have kicked his ass.

Met Mile and Whitney Handicap winner Tizway was found to have a ligament injury in his left front leg Tuesday morning that will keep him out of the Breeders' Cup Classic. Trainer H. James Bond said that some heat was detected in the area after his routine morning gallop and that a scan by a veterinarian confirmed the injury.

Kind of hard to fathom but team Todd could esaily be shutout this year. There is not a single name on that list that is a likely winner.

Fantastic Song is listed at 2-1 in the DRF. Was thinking WTF? until I realized it should have been 20-1, which makes a lot more sense.
