I would get him another start in a similar spot. He had a few excuses today, first off an over a year layoff, stuck on the rail and catching a sealed track. Don't get me wrong, he didn't run well at all. But I would want to see one more before I dropped him in for a tag.

Didn't he almost die after being reduced to under 700lbs from some crippling sickness?

Losing 40% of your weight from major sickness has to be a huge setback.
It would be like an NFL running back who plays at 230lbs -- if he gets sick and drops 40% of his weight he's at just under 140lbs. Sure, he'll probably be able to put the weight on overtime ... but good luck to him ever making it back to his prior form. |
