Faleh Almaleki -- whose murder trial began in Phoenix -- sent his Jeep crashing into daughter Noor Almaleki, 20, on Oct. 20, 2009, in a parking lot after she left his abusive home to live with her boyfriend's family and refused an arranged marriage, officials said.

Prosecutors have called the woman's death an "honor killing," referring to a practice in some Islamic countries in which someone -- often a woman who is believed to have shamed the family -- is killed.

A Pakistani construction worker in Italy beat his wife to death with a brick for opposing the arranged marriage of their daughter, triggering a wave of outrage among Italian politicians Monday.

The daughter, 20-year-old Nosheen Butt, was in turn beaten by her brother with a stick over the same issue and was hospitalized with a cranial trauma and a broken arm.

A 12-year-old Saudi girl unexpectedly gave up her petition for divorce from an 80-year-old man her father forced her to marry in exchange for a dowry, Saudi media reported Tuesday.

Despite support from human rights lawyers and child welfare advocates, the girl and her mother, who originally sought the divorce, withdrew the case Monday in a court in Buraidah, in Al-Qasim province, newspapers said.

The girl told the court that her marriage to the man was done with her agreement, according to Okaz newspaper.

"I agree to the marriage. I have no objection. This is out of filial respect to my father and obedience to his wish," she said.

Pakistani police crashed a bizarre wedding - to stop a 5-year-old girl from being married to a 7-year-old boy, authorities said yesterday.

Nisha, the bride, was in tears. She and her groom, Mohammad Waseem, were in traditional wedding clothes after a team of cops broke into the Muslim ceremony at a house in Karachi Thursday night.

About 100 guests were attending, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Malik Mazhar. The parents said the wedding had been arranged to end an eight-year feud between the two families, Express News TV reported.

A devout Muslim woman from Pakistan who wed a fellow countryman who did not share her faith tried to stab him to death as he slept in their Staten Island home because she claimed he forced her to drink alcohol, eat pork and dress provocatively, officials said today.

Rabia Sarwar, 37, climbed onto her husband Sheikh Naseem’s chest around 3 a.m. yesterday and repeatedly slashed at his neck as he slept, officials said, screaming, "It’s time for you to die!"

ON July 6, police say, a Pakistani named Chaudhry Rashid strangled his 25-year-old daughter San- deela Kanwal with a Bungee cord in her bedroom because she wanted to end her arranged marriage. This "honor killing" came not in Pakistan, but in Jonesboro, Ga. - a suburb 16 miles outside Atlanta.

At his arraignment, Rashid said through an Urdu interpreter that he was "not in the state of mind to talk because of the death of his daughter," but stated "I have done nothing wrong."

Dell, don't you think you've spent enough time giving examples of the fact that in many cultures, especially Muslim, Hindu and Jewish, women are/have been treated as subhuman? We all get that and have many times responded with indignation....nobody on this board feels any different. But your constant hammering away at this like you're the only one who cares and suggestions that others don't is more than a little insincere. It is more than obvious that you hate Islam, good for you...but implying that others accept any type of abuse to women, anywhere, anytime has become transparent...if you are so committed to the plight of women, I can give you the sites of many organizations that work to expose and hopefully someday eliminate same. You can start by becoming a supporter of Amnesty International.

When someone posts, "glad she'll be OK" in response to a gang sexual attack by 40 men. I don't think so.

When someone posts "I hate haters more than anything" in response to the abuse, dehumanization and murder of women. I don't think so.

If I indeed had hate for Islam why again would I care about their women? And the comparing of Jewish men's treatment of Jewish women to Muslim men's treatment of their women is Cater/Riot esque!

Amnesty International is an anti-American/Israel farce. I wouldn't give them a dime.
